October 2016 Newsletter

I lost a very dear friend to cancer last week. It is at times like this that one tends to sit back and reassess life. I learned so much from my dear Lucie…not to waste one day of my life on this earth and to experience as much of this world as I possibly can.
With that in mind, I encourage you to participate in all that this beautiful city and surrounding countryside have to offer. We post a section in our blog each Friday called Free or Almost Free Friday. There are some great activities there!!! We also have lots of client events coming up these next couple of months ….Grace in the Kitchen client night…Tasting Ottawa evening…Christmas Wreath making night…a house concert….all things that my friend used to so enjoy…that you too can enjoy and live each day to its fullest.
Happy Fall!

Neighbourhood Spotlight: VanKleek Hill

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to visit a horse farm just minutes from the charming village of VanKleek Hill.  We were doing a pre-listing walk through and decided to visit the village itself prior to the meeting in order to get a sense of the area. Well…we fell in love!

The village has a commitment to community you can feel even as you drive in. There are lovely homes lining the tree-filled streets, beautiful boutiques, a small local pharmacist and hardware store, inviting restaurants with patios and stores that you just have to go in to see what is inside. We ventured into one vintage home goods shop where we were met by the lovely owner who had decided to move to VanKleek Hill to raise her family in an “area with great education, a strong sense of community and really a higher quality of life”. What more could you ask for?

The village is only one hour from Ottawa and one hour from Montreal…a commute that is certainly doable if you are working in one of the major city centers. The village’s famous spots to eat are the Blueberry Hill Bistro, Vert Fourchette and the Trillium Tea Room. The Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday and Beau’s Brewery is located here as well. It is an area known for its festivals such as Oktoberfest at Beau’s, Porchfest in July, the Festival of Flavours in September and the Christmas Market in November…these are to name just a few!

Our new listing at 501 MacCallum’s Lane just minutes from the village is a century farmhouse on 111 acres with a horse farm, hobby farm, landing strip, 30 acres of tree farm and 11 acres of hay field…a piece of heaven! Visit the listing’s site on our website here: http://evansteamottawa.com/listings/501-maccallums-lane-vankleek-hill/

Let us know if you would like to see the home, you will not regret it!

1 Tbsp sour (vinegar…be it balsamic, rice, white, raspberry. OR fresh lemon or lime juice)
1 tsp. dijon mustard
