Ottawa’s Top Events this Week

The weather mayyyy not be the greatest this week with a load of snow currently coming our way, but it’s no excuse to not take in one of the many great events going on in and around Ottawa. Drive safely!

Winterlude – I know I’m pointing out the obvious here…but click the link to see the exact Winterlude festivities going on this week to see which ones tempt you the most.

Byward Market Stew Cook-Off – Over 20 Byward Market restaurants will be cooking off to see who can make the best stew to warm your bones on Friday February 9th from 11:30 to 2:00 pm. Great for those nearby for lunch! Get all the stew you can eat for $10.

Megaphono Festival – Taking place starting today until February 11th, this festival goes on throughout Ottawa and Hull. Enjoy a great lineup of performances this year.

Almonte’s Seedy Saturday – Taking place February 10th from 9 am to 3 pm at Almonte Civitan Hall, this is a chance for like minded people with green thumbs to get together to buy, sell or trade interesting and unusual varietes of seeds in preparation for planting season. Entry with a small donation is appreciated. This event is for beginners all the way to advanced gardeners.

Comedy Festival – Running from February 5 to 13th, this is an opportunity to watch a series of competitions as local stand up comics from Absolute Comedy and Yuk Yuk’s try to win $500 and a spot in the grand finale show taking place in March. Laughs would be welcome during the depths of winter so head out and laugh your head off.

Poems of Our Land Exhibition – If visual art is more your thing, Applecrate Galeries is hosting a vernissage for a new exhibition, Poems of Our Land by Ottawa painter Russ Paquette on February 10 from 6 to 9 pm. The artist will be in attendance.

Merrickville Winter Maker’s Market – One of the most popular destinations of Ottawa’s surrounding area, Merrickville will be holding its popular winter festival on February 10 from noon to 4 pm at 106 Read Street at the Community Centre. Visit over 40 local artisans, shopkeepers, vendors and more while DJ Tones plays great music. Food and beverage available as well.
